True meaning behind this saying?…?

Question by ikuto_lover_knight: True meaning behind this saying?…?

“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass. It’s about learning to dance in the rain.” – Author Unknown

For my English class, I have to write a 1 minute persuasive speech on this particular saying. I kind of get the meaning behind it, but if someone could try and phrase it nicely, in the right way… It could really help. Can anyone help me by giving your opinion on the meaning of this saying, and ideas that I could use in my speech?

Thank You!

“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass.” means that you shouldn’t spend your life just waiting for bad things to pass.

“It’s about learning to dance in the rain.” means that you should take challenges head on and enjoy doing your best at it.

Together it means: don’t just simply wait for the bad things in your life to go away, instead, have a positive attitiude and make the best out of it- and be proud of yourself for doing so.

Hope this helps. good luck!

PS- Nice answer GI Jane. i completely agree. i would have put something like that, but public schools (which i assume she attends) usually wouldnt accept that answer, unfortuantely.

PLEASE I NEED HELP??????? I HAVE MY WHOLE GRADE IN JEOPARDY!!!?

Question by Kool Aid: PLEASE I NEED HELP??????? I HAVE MY WHOLE GRADE IN JEOPARDY!!!?

I am WORRYING LIKE CRAZY on my PACE project.

Ok see the project is that we have to choose a career topic and talk about it in front of 3 judges on monday. We’ve been working on this for a quarter now. Please I’m beggin you to take your time out and just read this whole summary about electrical engineering and answer the questions I ask.

Summary:

Hello, my name is Barack Obama (Not really but I need a replacement name)

I want to be an Electrical Engineer when I get older because I have always wanted to work with electronics and help the electronic Engineering industry. Being an Electrician/Electronic Engineer/ Electrical Engineer it would be preferred best to be good at math, science, patience, and more. For being an Electronic Engineer it would be perferred best if you have your high school deploma, GED and your Bachelors degree in engineering. It would be preferred best to have a Bachelors degree in Engineering because that would be the more likely hood of getting the job as an Electrician. The percent of Electricians having there Bachelors degree is 81%, 16% of electricians have had some college, and 3% of Electricians only survived highschool. Electronic Engineers have some skills and abilities that they have and need. Some of those skills and abilities include being good at communication and reading skills, Be able to work in a group, invent new ways of doing things and work with electronics of course. Being an Electrical Engineer you have a job of course. The main part of an Electronic engineer is to maintain electricity in buildings like homes, schools, offices, and every other building with electricity. They will usually work indoors, but they will work outside sometimes usually because it would have something to do with an electrical system or something along those lines. Electrical Engineers get an average amount of 80,000 a year here in the United States. The highest paid state in the United States is California. Here in Idaho the average amount is 79,000 a year but I am not quite sure on that because I may have mixed up states. If it weren’t for Electronic engineers there would be no T.Vs, Computers, Ipods, playstations, cell phones and every other electronic we have today. The future for electronic engineers is bright. More and more people are becoming an Electrician and money has been increasing over the years. As you can see on this graph. Florida in 2006 it was ********, in 2016 its supposed to be around ********. That is a huge increase in population for electricians. So, the future seems bright for electricians…This is what it’s all about for an Electrician.

The Questions:
1) 1-10?
A) Was this a good summary?
B) What can I do to make it a little better?
C) Would this last 3-5 minutes? Why or Why not?
D) Would you pass this summary? Remember your a judge and imagine me talking to you.
E) What questions would you ask about this topic?

Thank you for reading this and PLEASE be honest. This project is putting my 8th grade in jeopardy!

Rate your piece 1 to 10? I give this a 3 at best.

Was this a good summary? There are some specific details, but there are not many definitions, and an overwhelming number of references to money / salary. It sounds like all you care about is how much you’ll make, there’s much more to know about these professions. What types of companies hire individuals who study these fields? What parts of the world are they most successful? What kind of hours are required in a work week? You could talk about other things such as safety, product development, courses you might expect to take in high school or in college…

To make it better you can…
-Organize your writing into sections, you jump around quite a bit, changing topics by sentence. The writing does not flow well, it simply sounds like you did an internet search and took pieces of your results and mixed them into a speech.
-Electricians, Electrical Engineers and Electronics Developers are three ENTIRELY different careers. You may be aware of this but your discussion seems to group them together. They are not all identical
-Your grammar and spelling are poor, check and revise as needed.
-A person can’t be “good at patience”, they might “have patience” or “patience is a beneficial trait”

This would not last 5 minutes.
It is unlikely that this would last 3 minutes.
A good measure is that an average speech / reading will be delivered at around 150 words per minute. You probably have around 2 minutes worth of text at best.

I would not fail this summary but it would not stand out. I’d grade it a D+ as is, with some revision, maybe C range, with major revision, it could be much better.

I would ask you for your sources. Listing numbers is worthless if you don’t tell us where you found information. Always give credit to a source and make sure that the source is true and reliable.
